Exotic, sweet and a little spicy; Star Anise is one of those things you know but you really don’t know. It is the star shaped fruit that grows on a tree scientifically called Illicium verum.

It has a very strong, distinct warm, sweet and spicy flavour, similar to licorice, fennel seeds & clove. Although the flavour of star anise is generally considered sweet, it is often used in savoury dishes.  

It’s also widely used in Ayurveda & traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where it is used to treat digestive problems, coughs and colds, acne, and all sorts of infections.

·       Star anise can be used as a natural remedy to alleviate headaches & used as an alternative treatment for people suffering from migraines (headaches) because of its ability to relax tense muscles.

·       Star anise relax the digestive system, which helps improve overall health by preventing bloating and discomfort caused by gas build-up in your stomach or intestines.

·       As a storehouse of antioxidants, it can help reduce the heart disease risks. It also contains compounds called flavonoids, which effectively lower cholesterol levels in the body.

·       In Ayurveda, star anise is believed to help increase mental clarity, promote good sleep, and protect the nervous system.
